Earning Aether

Every time you post literature or art to the group, you are earning Aether. Please note however all artwork submitted to the group must be finished work. This means no doodles or sketches will be allowed to earn Aether (or Witch Glass).  However, drawing your character is not the only way to earn this magical experience.

Events will always have unique bonuses for earning Aether, though each event will have different earnings.

Memes are available in the group’s gallery, and can be filled out to earn both Aether and Witch Glass. Each meme will earn a different amount!

There are many different ways to earn Aether and witch glass for your characters, but in this section we're focused on everyday artwork and literature.

Headshot……………... +1 Ae.

Chibi……………... +1 Ae.

Full Body…………….... +2 Ae.

Simple Background….. +2 Ae.

A simple background is defined as loosely creating space for the character to exist in. It cannot just be a gradient or solid color, but may only have a small shape of a bg, or lack extreme work. A gradient with a cloud or two would be considered simple.

Complex Background….+ 4 Ae.

A complex background should have taken the user at least 90 minutes of work (approx) and show a foreground, middle ground, and background. There is detail in the painting.

Character Shading…….+1 Ae.

Collaboration -  +2 Ae per a collaborator. Collaborations are highly encouraged in ToW, and therefore result in a bonus, instead of cutting the Ae in half. Only one of you must submit the art to the group (though the other(s) may feel free to do so as well), while the other(s) can simply link to the work in their Aether Tracker. Amount of collaborators are unlimited, however everyone must do a substantial amount of the work involved in the piece, and each collaborator must have their contributions listed in the artist comments.

3 Posts Per Player RP…….…..….…+1 Ae per player

6 Posts Per Player RP……….....…….+ 3  Ae per player

12 Posts per a Player RP……......……+ 7 Ae per a player

It is recommended to upload RPs in small chapters, to keep your followers updated and earn the most possible Aether.

Sketch Role Playing (SRP) is allowed in the group, but not to be abused. Please upload them in as much bulk as you can, like a sketch dump. Sketches should not be so loose you cannot tell which character is which. This is the only instance in which sketches will count for Ae.

3 post per player Sketch RP (SRP)...+ 2 Ae per player

12 post per a player SRP..................+ 8 Ae per player

Game Play

Gameplay in ToW is set up so that your character can grow and interact with Tales of Wanderlust. It will allow them to level up, meet other characters, and have a lasting effect on the Chevalin Universe.

The guide here is simple, as once you have created a character, you apply to the group without filling out any sort of tracker. Once accepted to the group you will meet one on one with the admin herd leader of your faction, and you will decide with them your character's beginning stats. The gameplay guide is simply here so that you know that the ToW system is something you might want to be a part of.

Terms You Need to Know

[Aether] is the magic that flows through Chevalin and is tracked like experience points for each character. The more you use your character in the group, the more Aether you will collect, bringing your character closer to the goals you might have for them.

[Witch Glass] are small shards of sea glass that are used as currency in Chevalin. Witch Glass is collected by you, the player, not so much the character itself. It is also earned by using your character in the group, and can be spent in the shops to buy, potions, companions, and more.

[Gifts] are the magical powers that rest within your characters. Each character has exactly one that is tied to their very soul. All gifts are unlocked by a character called the Diviner, when the time is right.

[Skills] are abilities your character can learn. Each character will get to attain up to two unique skills during their lifetime.

[Attributes] are seven qualities all characters posses, however where some characters may excel, others will struggle.

[Lore Altering Plots] are plots that your character can sign up for that will change the lore of the group.  These range from simpler plots like becoming the first pegasus to successfully leave Emberblood to complex plots that would allow you to create an entire new faction. LAPs as they are referred to, are not here to limit what you can and can't roleplay, rather expand it. A plot is only considered a LAP if it would cause the admins to have to permanently update our website with new important lore. LAPS may allow your character to create a new faction, rank, or skill when the time comes.

A [Chapter Event] is a main event that will push the plot, allow for game changing LAPS to take place, and other chaos to ensue.

[Quests] are series of prompts that you can do alone or with a partner, to give your character an edge in upcoming events. They have occasional item drops and will improve your character's legacy within the group, allowing them to take place in special plots, and have a bigger impact on the group.

The Aether Tracker

The Aether Tracker is a rather simple document to show what your character has achieved so far during gameplay.  It features the ever present area for your character's headshot, as well five empty spots in it's frame to signify your character's overall level within the group. These empty spots will gain their herds symbol, be it the butterfly, the robin feather, the spirit flame, or the firefly, as your character hits their 4th, 8th, 12th, 15th and 18th levels!

In addition there is two empty spots for your characters rank patch, and gift patch, which will given to them as they are earned.

On the bottom runner is a place for your character's 7 attribute modifiers, which we'll get into later. Various info about your character's level, skills and other gameplay will simply be logged into the artist comments of your Aether tracker.

You will not have to fill this out. Rather,  your Aether tracker will be completed and uploaded by an admin. Once you've been accepted to the group you will have a one on one meeting with an admin of the group to decide your starting attributes and get you all set up!

Attributes

There are exactly seven attributes that your character has during game play. These attributes will affect nearly everything in game, excluding only role plays between you and friends. This means that the following are affected by attributes and their modifiers:

  • Character Skills

  • Lore Altering Plots

  • Main Chapter Events

  • Occasional Item Drops

  • and More!

The seven attributes:

Strength is how physically strong your character is, both in battle and in their daily lives.

Constitution is how physically able your character is, and how much they can endure bodily.

Perception is how aware your character is of their surroundings, essentially what they can notice with their senses rather than their intuition.

Charisma is your character’s ease with social interaction, and their ability to make others feel comfortable/amiable towards them.

Willpower is how mentally able your character is, including common sense and instinct, as well as ‘powering through’ situations that are mentally draining.

Intelligence is how capable your character is at problem solving, and how knowledgeable they are about ‘book smarts’ topics, rather than common sense.

Dexterity is how agile your character is, including how quick they are to move and their initial reflexive response

We'll talk more about how they effect your game when we meet one on one, and if you have any questions feel free to note the group!

Events

Events come in four different base-types that will rotate and switch out as the group progresses. The type of event most befitting the plot's current progression will be used. However, so that you are not taken by surprise, the basic outlines will be listed here.

Long Format Events are literature driven events that ask players to form teams and role play to achieve a certain task. Admins will give out checkpoints that will help drive the story, checkpoints may include things like sudden inclement weather, obstacles, or discoveries!

Tournament Style Events are art driven events were two players will be pitted against each other as they move up the hierarchy until only two are left standing. This is often seen as the most demanding type of event.

Common Goal Events are submission based, where all members should respond to a prompt on their own, choosing to rp with a team in some cases, and in other cases whomever they wish. Any art and literature submitted will help the faction achieve their common goal. Typically the least demanding of all event styles.

Mini Events will be diverse in how they are held, and may only interact with one faction for a small holiday or relatively small plot.

All events will provide Aether and Witch Glass, usually in great amounts!

Something to keep in mind is that events are subject to rolls of random chance. This means your character could get hurt, find items, or discover unexpected information during an event. Items can be purchased in the shop to protect your character, and it is very rare that that any permanent damage will be caused. Avoiding negative rolls of chance are often based on your character's attributes. They can either save you or break you. Your character can never be killed by anyone but yourself, but they can be very inconvenienced.
